Project Details for University Quarter
Redevelopment of Stoke-on-Trent College of Further Education Campus
The college will comprehensively redevelop its current Cauldron campus site.
Relocation of Stoke-on-Trent Sixth Form College
The college is in the process of relocating to Roebuck Street, adjoining the University complex.
Remodelling of Staffordshire University Campus
The university’s College Road site will be redeveloped to create new facilities, public spaces and a new boulevard linking to the city centre.
University Boulevard
This project will create a direct, high quality and convenient route between Stoke station and the city centre.
Stoke-on-Trent railway station
A number of improvements to the station and its surrounding area will complement the proposed University Boulevard.
Science and Technology Centre

The ‘Knowledge Hub’
This shared facility brings education, employer engagement and business functions within a single location. A key project, its name reflects the contribution the facility will make in advancing the city’s knowledge-based economy.
The regeneration of the University Quarter will have a huge impact on educational opportunities in North Staffordshire.
The programme will also:
- deliver £285m of investment in the area
- create up to 932 jobs
- regenerate 9.7 hectares of brownfield land
- support 301 business start-ups
- create 5,000 sq m of new commercial floor space
- improve 3,400 sq m of public space

Stoke-on-Trent College of Further Education will comprehensively redevelop its current Cauldron campus site, to make the most of its position next to heritage parks and the canal.

Relocation of The City of Stoke-on-Trent Sixth Form College
The City of Stoke-on-Trent Sixth Form College is in the process of relocating to Roebuck Street, adjoining the University complex.
Remodelling of Staffordshire University Campus – College Road and Leek Road
Staffordshire University’s College Road site will be redeveloped to create new facilities and public spaces. A new boulevard will be built linking the University to the city centre. There will also be space for small businesses to be based and new places for people to live.
University Boulevard
Work will create a direct, high quality and convenient route between Stoke station and the city centre. Pedestrian links will be upgraded and the social and environmental quality of the area will be enhanced.
Stoke-on-Trent railway station
There will be a number of improvements to Stoke-on-Trent railway station and the surrounding area. These will complement the education-led developments to the north east of the station and along College Road – the proposed University Boulevard.
New educational facilities
Five new showpiece buildings will be shared by Staffordshire University, Stoke-on-Trent College of Further Education and the City of Stoke-on-Trent Sixth Form College. These are:
- Science and Technology Centre
- Media Centre
- Sports Training Centre
- Performing Arts Centre
- The ‘Knowledge Hub’

The ‘Knowledge Hub’
The ‘Knowledge Hub’ is a shared facility that fuses education, employer engagement and business functions within a single location. It is a key project in the University Quarter and has been given the working title of the ‘Knowledge Hub’ to reflect the contribution that the facility can make to advancing the city in terms of developing a knowledge based economy.
