Masterplans
The Stoke Town Regeneration Team have been working on a strategic framework for a revived Stoke Town, building on the town centre redevelopment opportunities offered by the Spode Works site.
From 24 expressions of interest from leading national and international practices, six design teams have been shortlisted to plan the future redevelopment of one of the historic towns of Stoke-on-Trent.
All shortlisted teams then submit an initial design concept for the town, which forms the public consultation part of the process. The public are invited to see these initial design concepts for Stoke, and have the option to feedback on what they see. All comments will be considered by the final judging panel of senior experts to help them choose the best team to produce the final masterplan.
The masterplan will be developed in consultation with, and reflect the aspirations of, the local community, and will rebrand Stoke Town. It will feature high quality, mixed use developments linked to iconic public realm projects that will attract new residents and visitors to the area.
Our brief for design and masterplanning included:
- Remodelling of the town centre, which will act as the catalyst for regeneration of Stoke Town.
- A design approach for Stoke Town that ensures a consistently high quality of new development with an emphasis on sustainability
- A development brief for key sites in Stoke Town, including the Victoria Ground site and the Spode Works
- A flagship redevelopment of the Spode site, with an emphasis on mixed use through quality urban design
- Transport, traffic and pedestrian movement
- Linkages with Stoke Station, the University Quarter, hospitals, the A500 and the city centre
- Gateways to Stoke Town
- The potential development of London Road as a ‘green boulevard’
- Development of the role of the town market
- The potential development of a district park
- The potential to develop tourism through the area’s heritage
This strategic framework will then guide investment in the town over the coming 10 to 15 years.
