Masterplans

City Waterside

RENEW and its partners commissioned a masterplan for City Waterside in 2005, to ensure the whole area is developed in a sustainable, harmonious way. Then, the 123-acre was made up mainly of former pottery manufacturing sites.

Now, City Waterside has extended to include some existing housing areas and the new urban neighbourhood will cover around 163 acres.

The City Waterside masterplan uses the area’s heritage and superb natural setting to provide a vision for a rich diversity of housing, services, spaces and places. It guides the creation of a new, high-quality, sustainable neighbourhood that offers a strong mix of both aspirational and affordable housing for young professionals, families and older people. The masterplan, which is currently being updated and refreshed, will help developers deliver planned, modern urban living for the first time in North Staffordshire.

City Waterside East

As part of the programme to transform City Waterside into a thriving community where people want to live, work and invest, RENEW has recently appointed consultants Taylor Young to lead the development of a further masterplan to revitalise the eastern side of the area.

City Waterside East includes:

In consultation with the community, RENEW and its partners have produced possible plans for the future of the area. A series of community events will be held over the coming months to find out what residents think of the plans to regenerate the neighbourhood as they progress – people will be encouraged to share their thoughts on how they would like to see the area developed, from the type and sizes of new homes to be built, to the design and use of the surrounding environment, access to jobs, transport and health facilities.

Then, later this year, a ‘preferred option’ will be presented to the community for consideration. This will be a final plan for the area, drawn up by the consultants taking into account all the comments and views of local people. North Shelton

In February 2009, Hulme Upright were appointed to prepare a masterplan for North Shelton. Eight key sites, that would benefit from investment and contribute to the wider improvement of the area, were identified.

Based on this assessment, draft masterplan options were prepared for each of the sites - three options per site. The options were made available in September/October 2009 for members of the community to scrutinise and comment on. Following an Options Appraisal process, the Preferred Option for North Shelton was identified. The Preferred Option was made available to members of the community during May/June 2010 for comment.

All feedback has now been reviewed and a Draft Masterplan has been developed. A copy of the Draft Masterplan Proposals Map is available to download below. Please send any further comments on the document to Mark Collins at mark.collins@stoke.gov.uk by 12pm on Monday 29 November 2010.

Following the completion of the masterplan, site specific development briefs will be prepared for a number of the sites that may then form the basis for the development agreement.
