Spotlight on... City Waterside

Each month we shine the spotlight on one area which is benefiting from RENEW North Staffordshire’s ongoing support and take a look at recent developments.  This month it’s the turn of City Waterside…

Exciting plans to create a vibrant new community at the heart of Stoke-on-Trent are beginning to take shape.

The City Waterside development will provide up to 2,400 high quality homes in a pleasant canalside community.

The project will incorporate open space and places to meet to encourage residents to come together and create an environment to work and play in their community.

City Waterside received a major boost with the agreement of a near £6m investment in December, 2009.

The Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) agreed to invest £2.9 million in the area, matched by funding from RENEW.

The funding of nearly £6m will be used for land assembly, land remediation and key highways and services infrastructure works for a new mixed-use development, preparing the way for 250 new homes and a new state-of-the-art factory for Bridgewater Pottery.

Work is moving on apace at City Waterside.

Achievements so far include:

  • A new eco friendly Waterside Primary School
  • Construction of the landmark Bridgewater canal bridge
  • Planning permission for 1,300 new homes - with 220 already built and sold
  • Completion of phase one of a new spine road
  • A £2.5 million homes refurbishment programme for historic terraced houses in and around Wellington Road
  • Major improvements to the canalside around Bridgewater Pottery.
