Sale of pub is completed
05 July 2010
The sale of a pub in Cobridge was completed this week. The Portland Inn, at the corner of Century Street and Portland Street, has been acquired by RENEW as part of the Voluntary Acquisition Programme.
The pub was tenanted until six weeks ago but the owner decided to take advantage of the opportunity to sell it. It has now been shuttered up while RENEW carries out a full assessment to decide what to do with the building.
Commented Richard Kettrick of Great Places – which acquired the pub for RENEW – “The problem with pubs is that they’re built for just one purpose and it’s hard to change the use to something else.”
But he said no decisions had been taken on the former pub’s future and are unlikely to be until at least early September. “For people who want to sell their properties the Voluntary Acquisition Programme gives them the chance to do so,” added Richard Kettrick. “And the owner of the pub decided he wanted to sell.”
There is an ongoing consultation with residents as part of the RENEW strategy for Cobridge.
