Young people get chance to learn work skills thanks to old canal

The Burslem Port project, which aims to “bring boats back to Burslem” byreinstating an old canal,  has received funding through the RENEW programme. The project has joined with PM Training, a social enterprise with a focus on tackling worklessness among young people, to begin the clearance of a site. It will  offer 20 young people a six month training opportunity in environmental management and ground work skills.

Residents are being urged to have their say on how North Shelton can be developed.
Renew North Staffordshire is staging six exhibitions over during September and October to see how eight sites in the area can be regenerated in the future.

Show Home Opens In Meir

New Show Home in MeirThe first former council-owned home to be completely refurbished as part of a regeneration scheme to bring affordable homes to Meir will be on show to the public from Friday (July 31).

The ‘show home’ at No 3 Woodville Road is one of four properties that form the new Woodlands development – a project designed to create a new ‘gateway’ into the Meir neighbourhood that will link the area to other developments in the area.

The redevelopment of Woodville Road is part of the first phase of RENEW North Staffordshire’s comprehensive regeneration programme in Meir. RENEW is working in partnership with Great Places Housing Group to transform the estate.

Residents remember a much-loved community champion

Residents remember a much-loved community championFriends and family of a much-loved community champion say he would have been delighted with a new garden that has been dedicated to his memory.

This weekend (July 4), many will gather to celebrate completion of the £125,000 regeneration project in Chamberlain Street, Shelton.

Named in memory of Arthur Garside, a former Chamberlain Street resident and member of the Upper Shelton Residents’ Association, the garden has been created using funding from RENEW North Staffordshire, in partnership with Sanctuary Group, Stoke-on-Trent City Council and local residents.

Be there at the Square! Great place for Meir community opens

Image of the SquareA PAIR of ordinary semi-detached houses have been transformed by Great Places Housing Group and RENEW North Staffordshire into a fantastic new community resource centre for the people of Meir, Stoke.

The local authority homes have been opened up with the use of a new internal steel structure to provide large meeting spaces, kitchen and offices.

Great Places worked with funding from RENEW North Staffordshire to create the facility at The Square in the heart of the Meir neighbourhood.
