Knutton homes facelift

Houses in part of Newcastle-under-Lyme have been given a major facelift.

Work has been carried out to transform homes in the St Bernard's Road and Silverdale Street areas of Knutton.

The £160,000 scheme has been completed by Aspire Housing and RENEW North Staffordshire.

Improvements to homes in the area included new boundary walls and railings, the painting of windows and doors, and replacement of guttering.

The St Bernard's Road houses were once considered for demolition, but improvements are now being made to enable families to stay in their homes.

The scheme also resulted in hands-on training opportunities for apprentices with PM Training, part of the Newcastle-under-Lyme based Aspire Housing Group.

Darren Green, Senior Regeneration Manager at Aspire Housing said: “The initiative was designed to enhance the local environment for residents, making it a more attractive place to live. The ultimate aim is to increase the market value of these houses, to encourage more homeownership in the area.”

Regeneration partners RENEW North Staffordshire, Aspire Housing and Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council are working together on a series of improvement projects for the Knutton and Cross Heath area of major intervention.
