Housing update for Meir Steering Group

The next meeting of the Meir Community Steering Group will be held at 7pm on Thursday July 22nd at The Square, Meir.

Among items on the agenda will be a talk by Barratts giving an update on their thoughts for the redevelopment proposals for the area. Barratts (the lead developer partner for Meir) has recently been on site to start preliminary investigations before they produce a planning application.

It is thought that the planning application will be submitted in November/December 2010.

RENEW, Great Places and Stoke-on-Trent City Council are discussing the mix of properties for the site and the location and numbers of the rented and shared ownership stock. Demolition is expected to start again around August/September with the removal of eight properties. Residents in the clearance area will be kept up to date with details on their housing requirements.

Also up for discussion are the gateway enhancements to Woodville Road and the continuing work at Lyme Road.

Great Places hopes to open a completed bungalow and invite local people to have a look at the quality of the new homes and the innovative technology included in the design. A date for this will be confirmed shortly.

A representative from the City Council’s Highways division will also be attending the meeting to discuss the outcomes from the recent study into parking and traffic issues around the Stanton Road, Coclough Road, South Walk, Woodville Road and Weston Road area.

Time will also be made for a discussion about The Square and what other activities local residents wish to be undertaken. So committee members – or anyone who wishes to join the committee or is able to attend the meeting – can make suggestions on how they would like to see this space used.
