Children get new playing area

Weston Heights residents’ association is currently talking with its contractors, health and safety officers and insurers to try and keep the children’s play area on West Street open as long as possible.

They will make every effort to keep it open, but if it has to be closed for health and safety reasons when work starts, signs will be posted.

The playing field may have to be closed when work begins because it will be close to an active building site. The danger of balls being kicked over the fencing and young people being tempted to climb in to get their ball back is very high.

But as part of the next phase, a new park is going to built and the children’s play area will move to that. And it will have a better playing field so the loss of  facilities will only be temporary.

During the school holidays there is a temporary footpath which starts from the corner of Foxglove Close on Weston Road and runs down the back of the old Spar shop site and the site of the Blythe Spirit pub, bringing pedestrians out at the bottom of Bath Street, near to where it joins Cross Street.
