About RENEW
RENEW North Staffordshire is the neighbourhood regeneration agency tasked with revitalising the region’s housing market and surrounding communties.
It was founded in 2004 when the Government recognised that the region needed support to improve poor housing and raise community aspirations which would help it achieve its wider regeneration ambitions.
North Staffordshire was designated as one of nine ‘housing market renewal pathfinders’ in England and RENEW was established to deliver an estimated £2.3 billion of investment spanning fifteen years.
Five years on it is working hard to improve the long-term future of Stoke-on-Trent, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire Moorlands and the surrounding areas and creating a thriving, diverse conurbation where people want to live, work, invest and study.
Its impact has been remarkable, and the Audit Commission which monitors the success of housing pathfinders awarded RENEW its highest assessment with ‘performing strongly’.
RENEW’s key priorities are to work with communities and partners to:
- encourage people to stay in the area and attract new people to the area
- make sure there are enough suitable homes for everyone to live in
- transform our towns by improving local environments and amenities
- provide a real choice of quality housing
- help create communities that will grow and prosper by ensuring everyone has an equal access to better homes, jobs and education.
